100 More Homes Added to Lamma Quarry Development

An additional 100 residential units have been added to government plans for the former Lamma Quarry at Sok Kwu Wan, which will combine low-density housing with a new yacht marina on the outlying island.

The new units bring the total number of homes at the future development to 1,200 — a 10 per cent increase over last year’s consultation plans, according to a document presented by the Development Bureau to the Islands District Council on Tuesday. The Lamma Island site is projected to cover around 40 hectares, half of which will be dedicated to a resort and other recreational facilities. Residential buildings, which will be capped at 10 storeys, are expected to house some 3,400 people.

Lining the northern shore of Sok Kwu Wan bay, a natural harbour home to a fishing village and aquaculture farms, the project will also provide 150-200 yacht berths over nearly 11 hectares of water.

Hong Kong’s government plans to sell the land by way of open tender for a private developer to build and operate. The Development Bureau invited the market to submit expressions of interest in April last year, receiving a total of 22 submissions.
