Hong Kong Disneyland Should Launch Local Cruises: CTS Chair

Hong Kong Disneyland should launch its own branded cruises to support the local “yacht economy” (遊艇經濟), according to the chairman of state-owned tourism giant China Travel Service.

Perry Yiu Pak-leung (姚柏良). Yiu, who also represented the Tourism functional constituency in Hong Kong’s Legislative Council from 2022 to 2025, pointed out that the theme park already operated its own Disneyland Resort Pier on the shores of Penny’s Bay, Lantau Island. Speaking to government broadcaster RTHK, Yiu suggested that Disneyland could offer a variety of maritime activities, such as Disney-themed cruises around Lantau and to nearby islands, including Cheung Chau and Lamma.

Disneyland’s ferry terminal is a public pier for private vessels, yachts, and tour vessels. It is open 24 hours a day, free of charge. A direct ferry service between Central Piers and the resort was initially planned when the park opened in 2005. No ferry operators tendered for the service at the time, although a temporary service connecting Disneyland and Central Ferry Pier No. 6 was launched in April 2026.

Hong Kong Disneyland recorded a net profit of over HK$500 million in the previous financial year, achieving “zero debt” status for the first time. Total annual visitor numbers topped 7.5 million, with per capita spending rising 2 percent year-on-year to a record high.
