Nansha Introduces Measures to Promote Yacht Industry
The government of Nansha District (南沙區) in Guangzhou (廣州) has unveiled a set of new measures intended to develop the area’s yacht industry. The “12 Nansha Yacht Policies” (南沙遊艇12條) cover
According to Nanfang Plus (南方+) news, the first measure is aimed at “enhancing research and development and yacht manufacturing capabilities to secure a leading position at the top of the value chain.” In particular, “bottleneck technologies” like AI navigation and new energy propulsion systems will be prioritised, with a specialised “yacht repair and manufacturing park” in the works. The second measure seeks to stimulate market demand by providing financial support for trade shows, exhibitions, and public displays in collaboration with cultural and tourism hotspots.
Third, Nansha Marina (南沙遊艇會) — already the first in mainland China to achieve a 5 Gold Anchor rating — will be upgraded to provide more berths and build “a one-stop comprehensive yacht service centre integrating mooring, maintenance and repair, and cross-border customs clearance agency services.” Fourthly, the district government will encourage companies to provide financing for boating-related businesses.
Already home to 70 percent of the city’s berths, Nansha has plans to provide 1,000 in the future. The district sees itself at “the geographic centre of the Greater Bay Area,” and at the forefront of efforts to capitalise on the “yacht economy” energising the region.
