Guangzhou Officials in Hong Kong to Shore up Yacht Economy
Officials from Guangdong’s provincial capital have travelled to Hong Kong to discuss areas of mutual cooperation, including the promotion of the regional “yacht economy” (遊艇經濟).
Committee members from the Nansha Development Zone (廣州南沙開發區) in Guangzhou met with 15 members of Hong Kong’s Legislative Council, as well as local representatives to the National People’s Congress. The meetings addressed areas for both regions to work together on achieving the goals of the 15th Five-Year Plan (十五五), a national plan for social and economic development spanning 2026-2030.
As well as areas such as healthcare and education, delegates singled out the “yacht economy” is a key area for cross-boundary cooperation. Hong Kong’s Wen Wei Po (文匯報) reports:
Hong Kong is fully committed to developing its high-end yachting economy, while Guangzhou’s Nansha district boasts ample waterfront space and well-developed port facilities. The two regions’ resources are naturally complementary. Hong Kong Legislative Councillor Lothair Lam Ming-fung (林銘鋒) has proposed vigorously developing the cruise and yachting economy, accelerating the harmonisation of regulations in the yachting sector between the two regions, and promoting close collaboration between the Guangzhou Nansha International Cruise Terminal and Hong Kong’s cruise terminals.
The southernmost district of Guangdong’s capital city, Nansha is home to the present-day Port of Guangzhou and Nansha Marina, one of the region’s largest marinas and the first to earn a “Five Gold Anchor” rating in the Chinese mainland.
